About Internal Audit
Internal auditing strengthens the organization’s ability to create, protect, and sustain value by providing the board and management with independent, risk-based, and objective assurance, advice, insight, and foresight.
Our office collaborates across campus to evaluate and improve governance, risk management, and internal controls—helping departments operate more effectively and efficiently. Over the years, we’ve contributed to initiatives such as:
- IT Governance: Strengthening IT strategy and standardizing practices across campus.
- Contract Management: Implementing improved systems to manage over 23,000 university contracts.
- Intercollegiate Athletics: Ensuring efficient and effective ticketing operations.
- UT Health Austin: Benchmarking accreditation standards to elevate medical service quality.
What Interns Do
As an intern, you will work closely with our professional audit team to experience every phase of the audit process–from planning and risk assessment to fieldwork, reporting, and follow-up.
You’ll gain hands-on exposure to:
- Assurance and Advisory Engagements
- Investigations and Hotline Assessments
- Follow-Up Activities and Reporting
- Client Interviews and Team Collaboration
- Audit Software and Data Systems
Depending on the engagements you work with, you may have a chance to participate in meetings with university leadership to see firsthand how internal audit supports the University’s goals.
